9 pilgrims killed in stampede in Jharkhand

In Jharkhand, nine Pilgrims have been killed and fifteen injured in a stampede in an Ashram at the religious town of Deoghar.

The injured have been admitted to a local hospital. The dead are from Bihar and Odisha and include eight women and one child.

Speaking to our Correspondent, the Deputy Commissioner of Deoghar, Rahul Purwar said that the incident happened at Thakur Anukul Chandra Ashram this morning when large number of devotees assembled at the prayer hall on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Thakur Anukul Chandra.

He further said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident. According to local sources, around two lakh, fifty thousand devotees had gathered there.

BJP MP from Dumka has demanded that Centre and State government should make better arrangements in Deoghar as around five crore pilgrims visit this town every year.
