In China, nine miners have been trapped in the Shanxi province after a flood in the coal-producing heartland. Official Xinhua news agency today reported safety officials had made contact with eight of the group at the mine adding that they would be rescued soon. Twenty-three miners were around 1,400 metres underground at the time of the flood last evening and 14 of them escaped to safety.
