Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai on Monday revealed the results of the eighth batch of genome sequencing on COVID patients. Out of the 280 samples tested from Mumbai, 89 percent of the samples tested positive for Omicron variant while eight percent tested positive for delta derivative, with the remaining three percent for delta and its subtypes.<br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The most noteworthy point of the report is that from just two samples testing positive for Omicron in December 2021, the variant has increased exponentially to infect 89 per cent of the patients in Mumbai.<br />''<br />'' It may be recalled that Delta was the most dominant variant with almost 75 per cent samples testing positive for the same in November last year; however the Omicron variant has become the most dominant variant in just two months. According to the recent report, 62 per cent of the infected patients were in the age group of 21-60 years while eight per cent were from the 1-20 years age group. <br />''<br />''According to the report, 99 of these patients had not taken even a single dose of vaccination and 76 of them had to be hospitalized for treatment. Out of the 174 fully vaccinated patients, 89 patients had to be hospitalized.</span><br />
