In Puducherry, an estimated 84 percent of the voters exercised their franchise in the by election to the Indira Nagar Assembly constituency. Barring a few stray incidents polling was by and large peaceful. Polling began on a brisk note and continued without any let up right through the day. Chief Minister N.Rangaswamy cast his vote around noon. Seven candidates including those from the ruling NR congress, Congress, Aiadmk and BSP were in the fray.Two companies of the CISF along with the local police were deployed in the 28 booths to ensure smooth conduct of the by poll.
