817 police personnel have been awarded Police medals on the eve of the Republic day this year. Out of these, three policemen from the state of Andhra Pradesh and four from the Central Reserve Police Force have been awarded the President's Police medal for gallantry. 87 people have been awarded the Police Medal for gallantry out of which 22 people are from Kashmir and 18 from Uttar Pradesh. Four people, Jai Kishen from the Border Security Force, Bhoop Singh from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Suresh Kumar from Haryana police and Wakil Ahmed from Uttar Pradesh police have been conferred the Police medal posthumously.

President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service have been awarded to 93 persons and Police Medals for Meritorious Service have been awarded to 630 personnel.

38 personnel have also been awarded Correctional Service Medals for prison administration. This includes Bimal Panda, assistant jailor of the Balasore district jail in Odisha who has been awarded the President’s Correctional Service Medals for Distinguished Service.
