Government today informed the Lok Sabha that 81 crore people in the country are being provided wheat at the rate of two rupees per kilogram, rice at the rate of three rupees per kilogram and coarse cereals at the rate of one rupee per kilogram. <br/><br/>Replying to a question, the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ramvilas Paswan informed the House that the issue of prevention of hunger death belongs to the State governments.<br/> <br/>Replying to the main question regarding storage capacity of foodgrains, the Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution C. R. Chaudhary said that it has enough storage capacity for food grains in the country. <br/><br/>He informed the House that government agencies purchased a total of six hundred metric tones foodgrains produced by the farmers. Mr. Chaudhary said, the total capacity of government godowns is 795 metric tones. <br/><br/>Replying to a question regarding Private Entrepreneurs Guarantee (PEG) Scheme, the Minister said, in order to augment the storage capacity in the country, the government has formulated the Scheme in the year 2008 and 2009 for construction of godowns through private entrepreneurs, Central Warehousing Corporation and State Government Agencies. <br/><br/>The Minister informed that PEG scheme is already implemented in 21 States as per assessment of requirement. He said in Goa and Meghalaya, implementation of the scheme has not been found feasible.
