800 more FM stations likely to be auctioned: Ambika Soni

The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni has said, nearly 800 FM stations are likely to be auctioned in the third phase of expansion of the FM Radio in the country. Mrs. Soni was speaking at the Aakashwani National Annual Awards function in Chandigarh. Mrs. Soni said, both Doordarshan and All India Radio would be completely digitalized by the year 2017 and the government had allocated 843 Crore rupees for the purpose. This would not only lead to a marked improvement in the quality of programmes of these two media, but would also help in preserving the invaluable treasure of classical, carnatic and light music available with Aakashwani. P.S.Madan Kumar got the Best News Editor Award alongwith Lovlin Nigam for Sports Scan. The Bold and Courageous Correspondent award was given to All India Radio Kabul correspondent Santosh Kumar and Kanchan Prasad, Colombo. K.L. Sharma best correspondent award had gone to Hyderabad correspondent M.S. Lakshmi.
