8 people killed in anti-govt protests in Malawi

In Malawi, at least eight people have been killed in violent anti-government protests. Officials on Thursday said the deaths occurred in the northern city of Mzuzu, where police clashed with demonstrators yesterday. Similar clashes took place in the capital, Lilongwe, and in the city of Blantyre. According to witnesses, the demonstrators looted shops and set cars on fire and police used tear gas to disperse them. Protesters raised slogans against rising prices and eroding civil liberties.
