8 including Army officer & 2 policemen killed in J&K militant attacks; PM condemns attack

In Jammu and Kashmir, eight people including a Lt. Colonel of Indian army were killed in two terror attacks in Kathua and Samba districts today. In the first incident, heavily-armed militants dressed in army fatigues attacked Hiranagar police station in Kathua around 6.45 AM, killing 6 people. They include 4 policemen and two civilians. The same group of militants later targetted an army camp in nearby Samba, killing two army men including a Lt. Colonel. One injured army personnel has been admitted to hospital. DIG Police Jammu-Kathua Range Shakil Beig said, two militants were killed in Samba army camp. The gun battle between the militants and security personnel continued, when reports last came in. A massive search operation has been launched in the entire area along the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway.
Prime Minister Dr Manmoahn Singh has condemned the heinous terror attack in Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement, Dr Singh said, the attack is one more in a series of provocations and barbaric actions by the enemies of peace. He said, the government is firmly resolved to combat and defeat the terrorist menace that continues to receive encouragement and enforcement from across the border. The Pime Mnister said, such attacks will not deter India and not succeed in derailing New Delhi's efforts to find a resolution to all problems through a process of dialogue.
