About eight crore bank accounts have been opened so far under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana in the country since its inception. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that if a family not a village is being treated a unit under the scheme. He hoped further that two crore more accounts will be opened by 26th of January, 2015 to achieve the target of ten crore. He said, the scheme envisages extending the accidental cover of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 30,000 life insurance cover to account holders.
