8 coal mines will be offered in the next round of coal auction in January. Coal Secretary Anil Swarup said this while briefing media in New Delhi today. He said government is targeting rationalisation of coal linkages under Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojna, UDAY which will be auctioned and bids will be welcomed on tariff-basis. <br/><br/>Mr Swarup said government is aiming to boost financial health of discoms via tariff-based linkage auction. The Secretary also said coal production has crossed 300 million tonnes this week and Ministry is well on the way of achieving target of 560 million tonnes.
