7th Regional Anti-corruption Conference: Focus on information on tackling terror funding

Government has said that sharing information on tackling terror funding will be the focus of discussions besides other issues of international and regional importance in the 7th Regional Anti-corruption Conference being held in New Delhi from Wednesday. The Conference is an initiative of India, Asian Development Bank and organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development.

In an exclusive interview to the News Services Division of All India Radio, the Minister in the office of Prime Minister, Mr. V. Narayanasamy said that through money laundering terror groups like Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar – e-Toiba have been carrying out terror strikes in the country. He said, some countries are also funding terror activities in India to the de-stabilise the country.

Mr. Narayanasamy said that the government has also taken new initiatives to amend the Indian Penal Code to bring in foreign public officials involved in corruption in the country under its ambit. He said the modifications will also apply on Indian government officials involved in a corruption case outside the country. He said that this is in accordance with the United Nations' conventions against corruption adopted by India. The Minister also informed that government is also bringing in a bill on public procurement to combat corruption in procurement procedure.

The Minister said, several cases of corruption have been reported in the corporate sector. A suitable bill will be brought in Parliament to curb the menace.

AIR correspondent reports, other issues high on the table will be international cooperation in corruption investigations, measures to prevent and detect corruption in public procurement, corporate compliance, besides others.
