7th phase of Bihar Panchayat elections passes off peacefully

In Bihar, the seventh phase of Panchayat elections passed off peacefully today amidst tight security. Polling was held for 907 Gram panchayats spread over 62 blocks of the state. AIR Patna correspondent reports, no major incident of violence was reported from any part of the state except a few skirmishes between rival groups in Patna, Begusarai and Aurangabad districts. A presiding officer in Nalanda has been arrested for his involvement in poll irregularities. Over nine hundred people have been arrested as a preventive measure during poll .About eighty thousand rupees were recovered from the possession of arrested persons. The Panchayat elections will conclude on May 18 after the remaining three more phases. The eighth phase of elections will be held on the 12th of this month.
