7th Pay Commission: Committee recommends modification in some allowances

Ashok Lavasa committee has suggested modifications in some allowances applicable universally to all central government employees in the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. <br/><br/>It has recommended some changes in certain other allowances which apply to specific employee categories including railwaymen, postal employees, scientists, defence forces personnel, doctors and nurses.<br/><br/>The committee headed by Finance Secretary Mr. Lavasa was set up in June last year to study the recommendations of Commission on allowances and it submitted its report to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley yesterday.<br/><br/>The report is being currently examined by the Department of Expenditure and will be placed before the Empowered Committee of Secretaries to firm up the proposal for approval of the Cabinet. <br/><br/>While recommendations of the commission on pay and pension were implemented, allowances were continued to be paid at old rates.The pay panel had recommended that of a total of 196 allowances, 52 be abolished altogether and 36 be abolished as separate identities by subsuming them in another allowance.
