In Jammu and Kashmir, over 79 percent voters exercised their franchise on Thursday during the 8th phase of Panchayat elections held in seven blocks of the State. The polling was held to elect 237 Sarpanches and 1,659 Panches. AIR correspondent reports that the polling was smooth and peaceful as no major untoward incident has been reported from anywhere.
