Seventy seven Indian fishermen hailing from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, who were released from Sri Lankan prisons, arrived at Karaikkal Port early this morning. They had been arrested by the Lankan Navy in separate incidents this year on charges of trespassing into the territorial waters of the island nation. <br/><br/>They belonged to Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram and Nagapattinam districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal district of the Union Territory of Puducherry. Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, Handlooms Minister OS Manian and family members and relatives of the fishermen received them at the port.<br/> '<br/>The Sri Lankan Navy handed over the fishermen to Indian authorities near the International Maritime Boundary Line yesterday. The Indian Coast Guard brought them to the Karaikal port. Officials confirmed that they were later sent to their homes.
