76 members of the Rajya Sabha, belonging to opposition parties gave a notice of the motion for the removal of Karnataka Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran who is facing allegations of land grab.<br/><br/>They include leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, CPIM leader Sitaram Yachuri, CPI leader D. Raja and SP leader Amar Singh and other opposition party members. The impeachment notice lists 12 specific charges, including possessing wealth disproportionate to known sources of income and illegal encroachment on public property. <br/><br/>The Rajya Sabha secretariat said in an official release that it examining the matter in accordance with the provisions of Judges (Enquiry) Act and the rules framed under it. Justice Dinakaran's elevation to the Supreme Court has already been held back with the Centre returning the file recommending his promotion. The Supreme Court collegium is yet to formally take a decision on it. Mr Jaitley told reporters that they have come to the conclusion Justice Dinakaran should be impeached.<br/><br/>The Congress spokesperson Abhisek Singhvi outside Parliament said that it was not proper to comment on the issue as no decision has been taken by the party yet. Asked about the stand of the government on the impeachment petition against Justice Dinakaran, Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily said, that he has not seen the petition did not discuss matters pertaining to the appointments in the higher judiciary.<br/>
