In Tamil Nadu, rains have abated, even as the death toll due to the heavy downpour in the last week has gone up to 76. Nilgris, bore the brunt of the monsoon, as torrential rains battered the hills, triggering landslips in which 43 people were killed. Union Telecommunication Minister Mr. A.Raja and two state Minister’s are visiting the rain hit areas supervising relief operations. Ooty-Coonoor – Mettupalayam Road has been badly damaged and vehicular traffic on this busy section has been hit. The other important Ooty-Kotagiri road also has been cut off due to landslides. Many villages in and around Ooty, Coonoor and Kotagiri are also ought of bounds due to minor landslips on the roads. The district administration has sought the help of the army to carry out repairs immediately.
