75% State elector turnout in Prez poll: Returning Officer

Polling to elect India's new President was held in Parliament House and State capitals yesterday.

The Returning Officer for Presidential Poll and Secretary General of Rajya Sabha Mr. V K Agnihotri told the media that the poll was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.

The total elector turnout in all States was 74.84 per cent. The Returning Officer said the counting of votes will take place in Parliament House on Sunday from 11 AM onwards.

He said the result of counting will be announced immediately after the counting of votes is over.
UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee was in a direct contest with P A Sangma sponsored by some opposition parties in the poll.
