71 per cent voting was recorded in the second phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir while it was 65 per cent in the 20 Maoist-affected constituencies in Jharkhand. Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi said that the final figures are likely to go up. Polling in both the states was by and large peaceful.
Reasi and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir saw heavy polling. Voter turnout in Reasi district was 71 per cent and in Udhampur, the poll percentage stood at 76 percent.
Unlike the first phase, helicopters were not put to use in the Valley as weather was mainly clear. In Jharkhand, Ranchi saw a voter turn out of 65 percent and East Singhbhum, 63.19 per cent. In West Singhbhoom, 69.89 percent voter turnout was recorded.
