70% votes cast in Gujarat second phase polling

In Gujarat an estimated 70 cent votes have been cast today in the second and final phase of Assembly elections. A total of 820 candidates including 49 women are in contest in this phase of elections.

AIR correspondent reports that 10 per cent more polling has been recorded in the comparison of previous assembly elections. Maximum 72 per cent voting has been recorded at Banaskantha, Sabarkantha and Gandhinagar districts. Followed by 71 percent polling is recorded at Mahesana and Anand districts while 70 percent polling has taken place at Ahmedabad, Patan, and Vadodara districts.

Voting was marred by a firing incident involving BJP candidate and sitting MLA from Sahera constituency in Panchmahal district in which four people were injured. Both Congress and BJP have made counter allegations about this incident.

Several political stalwarts including Chief Minister Narendra Modi, farmer Chief Minister Shankar Singh Vaghela, Controversial BJP leader Amit Shah and Congress leaders Mohan Singh Rathawa and Siddharth Patel are in contest in this phase of elections. About 15 Modi Government ministers are also seeking their re -election in this phase. With the today`s voting of political fate of candidates are now sealed in electronic voting machines.

Congress has lodged a complaint against Mr. Modi to the Commission for reaching at polling booth with a mob of supporters and government machinery.
