7 to 8% GDP growth rate creates employment, says Arvind Pangariya

NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Dr Arvind Pangariya on Thursday rejected allegations that GDP growth in the country has not created any employment. He said, when growth rate of any economy remains between 7 to 8 percent, the growth creates employment. He was speaking in a seminar on "NITI action agenda and the Indian economy" organized by Reserve Bank of India in Mumbai on Thursday.<br/><br/>RBI governor Urjit Patel and economist Vivek Dahejiya also held discussions with Dr Pangariya. He said, the data available at present is unreliable AND to find out exact employment generation in the country, a collaborated statistical data is needed.<br/> <br/>Claiming that fast growing economies like India always have potential for employment generation, Mr Pangadhiya said, the drawback with Indian job market is, low productivity and low wages.<br/> '<br/>While stressing the need of investment in small and medium firms to compete with global firms, Mr Pangariya added that whole ecosystem of this sector needs to be changed with the use of state-of the art technology. He said, the focus of NITI Aayog is on creating infrastructure and system for small and medium scale industries in the country and this is the foremost priority of NITI's action agenda.<br/> '<br/>He further said, considering demographic dividend of the country, India needs to create the system to attract global industrial investment in the country instead of other emerging economies like Vietnam or Bangladesh.
