7 police, excise personnel suspended in connection with UP hooch tragedy

<br/>In Uttar Pradesh seven police and state excise department personnel including head of local police station and 2 excise inspectors have been suspended in connection with hooch tragedy at Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi and Varanasi districts in which 8 persons including 2 women were died.<br/><br/>Quoting official sources our Lucknow correspondent reports that Police has lodged named FIR against 7 persons and three of them in Sant Ravidas Nagar district have been arrested. Gangster Act has also been slapped against them. Police has raided several places under Chauri police area of the district and has recovered raw materials worth lakhs of rupees for producing illicit liquor including rectified spirit and packing machines.<br/><br/>The government has initiated a high level inquiry into the tragedy and has sent additional commissioner excise to conduct the probe. The Chief Minister Ms. Mayawati has expressed her sorrow over the tragedy and has asked for taking serious actions against persons responsible for the incident.<br/><br/>In Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi and Varanasi districts some villagers under Chauri and Kapsethi police areas had taken spurious liquor from a shop at Shivdaspur in Varanasi district. Nearly two dozen of them were admitted in hospitals when their condition start deteriorated. Five villagers in Sant Ravidas Nagar and three in Varanasi districts have died till now. Nearly two dozen are still admitted in the hospitals.
