In Assam, seven militants belonging to a local insurgent outfit -known as ‘Udal’- were gunned down by Army in an encounter at Ghutghuti near Rongpur in Hailakandi district of Barak Valley this morning.An army jawan was injured seriously in the encounter and he has been airlifted to the Army Hospital at Guwahati for treatment. According to official sources, the encounter took place when the Army with the help of the local police launched a search operation on a tip off that several hardcore militants were taking shelter in the area. The encounter lasted for several hours. Search for more bodies of the militants are on. Security forces also recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the site of the encounter.The insurgent outfit 'Udal' group is stated to be active in Assam and Mizoram border areas, including the Barak Valley districts.
