7 killed as two blocks of building collapse in Vadodra

In Gujarat, seven persons have been killed and many others are feared trapped when two blocks of a building collapsed in Vadodara. Rescue and relief operations are in full swing and six persons injured in the incident have been admitted in near by Pramukh Swami Hospital. Quoting official sources, our Ahmedabad correspondent reports that two wings of a three storied building constructed by Vadodara Urban Development Authority-VUDA in Atladara area of Vadodara collapsed early this morning. Chief Fire Officer H.J.Taparia told AIR that relief and rescue workers are facing hardships in removing debris due to congested residential area. National Disaster and Relief Force and Army personal have also rushed to the spot for the rescue operation. Meanwhile, a 10 year old girl has been saved from the debris after four hours of mishap. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has announced a cash relief of two lakh rupees to the kin of the deceased in the mishap. A high level probe has been ordered into the mishap.

AIR correspondent reports, the residents of Block Number 11 of Madhavnagar Colony of Vadodara had found themselves trapped under the debris before they wake up from the early morning sleep. Death toll is likely to increase as relief and rescue operations are still on. Sniffer dogs have also been called to the spot to search any live persons from the debris. In a miraculous escape, a 10 year old girl has been taken out alive from the debris after the four hours of the mishap. Major casualty was averted as the second wing- block No.10, which was collapsed after 20 minutes of the first wing collapse -was almost evacuated.
