Reports from Iran say seven of the most senior members of the Bahai'i faith have been sentenced to jail for upto 20 years. The seven face a number of charges including acting against Islam and spying. They were arrested two years ago. The accusations against them included acting against the security of state, acting against Islam and spying. Members of the Bahai'i community say this is the latest example of the growing persecution of members of their faith in Iran. A Bahai'i representative at the UN in Geneva described the charges as baselss. The authorities in Iran do not accept it as a legitimate faith and argue that the Bahai'i hold fanatical views on Islam.
