69th Infantry Day being observed

The 'Infantry Day' was celebrated today with a solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony organised at `Amar Jawan Jyoti' in New Delhi. Chief of Army Staff Gen Dalbir Singh, Gen JJ Singh, (Retd) former Chief of Army Staff, Director General Infantry and Colonels of Infantry Regiments laid wreaths and paid homage to the braves of the Infantry. <br/><br/> The Infantry celebrates 27th October each year as the Infantry Day to commemorate the first Infantry action post independence sixty nine years ago. The Day was also celebrated with traditional solemnity and gaiety in Mumbai. On this occasion, Major General Anuj Mathur, officiating General Officer Commanding Maharashtra Gujarat and Goa Area (GOC MG&G Area) and all Officers of Military Station, Colaba laid wreath, in remembrance and honour of all those members of the Infantry fraternity, who made the supreme sacrifice for the honour and safety of the country in Jammu and Kashmir.<br/><br/>In a function held at the War Memorial, Parachute Regiment Training Centre in Bengaluru this morning, Major General VPS Bhakuni, Commandant, Selection Centre (South) and Senior most Serving Infantry Officer in the city, Lieutenant General Ravi Eipe (Retd) and Brigadier Salim Asif, Deputy General Officer Commanding, Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area laid wreaths to pay tribute to the martyrs.

The 69th Infantry Day is being celebrated throughout the country today. In a function held at the War Memorial, Parachute Regiment Training Centre in Bengaluru this morning, Major General VPS Bhakuni, Commandant, Selection Centre (South) and Senior most Serving Infantry Officer in the city, Lieutenant General Ravi Eipe (Retd) and Brigadier Salim Asif, Deputy General Officer Commanding, Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area laid wreaths to pay tribute to the martyrs.<br/><br/>In a message, Major General KS Nijjar, General Officer Commanding, Karnataka & Kerala Sub Area, has conveyed that the Infantry had performed a commendable job of serving the nation in varying and inhospitable conditions and terrain and has always safeguarded the territorial integrity of the country from both internal and external aggressions. He called on all Infantry men to continue the good work with zest and zeal and reaffirmed that the Infantry would be prepared to deal with challenges to national security always and every time.
