The 64th annual Cannes Film Festival has opened on the French Riviera with a gala screening of Midnight in Paris, a romantic comedy from US director Woody Allen. Hundreds of films will be competing for the Palme d'Or prize over the next eleven days. It is the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival and goes to Director of the best feture film. Hundreds of films are also vying for awards in other categories also.
