In Uttar Pradesh, about 63 percent voting has been recorded in first phase of three tier local body polls. Quoting the State Election Commission sources AIR Allahabad correspondent reports that maximum 74 percent voters have exercised their franchise in Saharanpur district followed by 71 percent in Meerut. Minimum 54 percent polling was recorded at Etawah home town of ruling Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.Voting was by and large peaceful in all 104 Local Bodies spread over in 17 districts. 40 candidates have already been declared elected unopposed including one each chairman for Nagar Palika Parishad and Nagar Panchayat. A total of 16122 candidates are in fray for first phase of elections. Polling for Local Bodies Election at Lucknow was held one day earlier on June 23. AIR correspondent reports that second phase of elections will be held on June 27. A total of 163 Local bodies spread over 17 districts will go for poll in this phase. Polling will also be held in 5 Municipal Corporations including Agra, Allahabad, Kanpur, Gorakhpur and Bareilly in this phase of elections. A total of 18363 candidates including 6690 women are in fray for second phase of elections. Of them, 53 have been declared elected unopposed including chairman for one Nagar Panchayat.
