62% turnout recorded in polls for 5 LS seats in WB

In West Bengal, around 62 percent polling was recorded in first five hours of voting. The polling is on in six Parliamentary seats covering three Maoist hit districts and Burdwan. The seats are Midnapur, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Bishnupur and Asansol.

The Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Sunil Gupta told in Kolkata that polling is by and large peaceful barring a few stray incidents. He said that, the Election Department is taking speedy actions on every complaint.

A number of Electronic Voting Machines were replaced from different polling booths for technical snags. One Presiding Officer has been removed at Khandoghosh in Burdwan districts for negligence of duties.

Clash between ruling Trinamool Congress and Congress supporters has also been reported from the area. Two persons were arrested at Pandabeshwar in Burdwan Districts for beating a handicapped voter.
