In Pakistan, 61 persons were killed and 130 others wounded in twin explosions at All Saint's Church in Peshawar's Kohati gate area today. The victims included children and women . The blasts also shattered the windows of nearby buildings. A senior police official told the media that two suicide bombers carried out the attack.
He said that six kilograms of explosives were used in the suicide vests of the bombers. Peshawar City Police Chief said that the first attack happened when services had finished and people were leaving the church.
A suicide bomber tried to attack the people, but on being stopped by the police he detonated the bomb. The second blast was carried out inside the church.
Peshawar City's Superintendent of Police also confirmed that two attackers opened fire at the security guards deployed at the church killing one guard and injuring the other before entering the church premises.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but radical Islamists have been blamed for previous attacks on the country's minority communities, including Christians.
Condemning the attack Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that such cruel acts of terrorism reflect the brutality and inhumane mind set of the terrorists.
Meanwhile, another explosion in Balochistan's Sibi area injured nine persons and damaged several cars and shops in the vicinity of the blast today. Police sources said that the bomb was planted on a motorcycle which was remotely detonated on Nishtar road in Sibi's Karim chowk area.
