In Tamil Nadu, sixty percent voting took place in the first phase of the civic body polls held on Monday . Mayors of ten corporations including Chennai Madurai Trichy and Coimbatore will be elected directly in the civic polls.Chief Minister Ms.J.Jayalalithaa,DMK Chief Mr.M.Karunanidhi, DMK treasurer M.K.Stalin,State Congress President K.V.Thangabaalu, Union Shipping Minister G.K.Vasan,DMDK leader Vijayakant, Samathuva Makkal Katchi president Mr.Sarathkumar and leaders of various political parties exercised their franchise at Chennai. But polling percentage in Chennai was lower than the other corporations.Electronic Voting machines are used for the first time in urban areas in this election. Apart from Corporations, 60 municipalities, 259 town panchayats and 191 panchayat unions had also gone for polls today. The second phase will be conducted on the 19th of this month and the results will be announced on the 21st of this month.
