6 opposition leaders arrested in Bahrain, say reports

In Bahrain, reports say that six opposition leaders were arrested on Thursday as calm returned to the streets of in capital Manama a day after a massive crackdown on protesters by security forces. Reports say at least five people including three protestors and two policemen were killed during the crackdown. Government has banned gatherings, rallies and demonstrations in the country.Two ministers and four Shura Council members resigned in protest against the government crackdown. A three month long emergency has already been imposed in the country to quell political unrest as the Gulf Cooperation Council force led by Saudi Arabia is stationed in Bahrain.Iranian channel PressTV has reported that Iran has recalled its ambassador to Bahrain for consultations after the crackdown on protesters. Bahrain has already recalled its ambassador from Iran. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay has urged Bahrain to rein in its security forces. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has urged Bahrain to negotiate a political agreement with the demonstrators.
