6 killed, 40 injured in separate train accidents in UP

At least six persons were killed and about 40 injured in three separate accidents involving five passenger trains amid dense fog in Uttar Pradesh this morning. DIG, Kanpur, B P Jogdand said six persons were killed and at least 40 others were injured when the Bhiwani-Gorakhpur Gorakhdham Express hit the stationary Prayagraj Express at Panki railway station in Kanpur district at around Nine this morning. PRO of North Central Railway (Allahabad) Amit Malviya said, the Delhi-Allahabad Prayagraj Express was at the station when the Gorakhdham Express hit it from behind in dense fog. The last coach of the Prayagraj Express badly damaged due to the impact of the collision. In another accident, the Delhi-bound Licchavi Express rammed into the stationary Magadh Express at Sarai Bhopat near Etawah at around 8 am. The driver of the Licchavi Express was seriously injured as the engine of the train ploughed into the Delhi-Islampur Magadh Express in foggy conditions. In third accident, Faizabad-bound Saryu Express dashed with a tractor trolley near Vishwanathganj Railway Station at an unmanned level-crossing. The engine of the train got partly damaged in the accident. No casualty was reported so far in this accident. The Railway Board Chairman and Member Traffic have left Delhi for Kanpur. Meanwhile Railway has announced ex gratia of Five Lakh rupees for those who killed in the accident and one lakh rupees for those with serious injuries. Rail Traffic movement is complety stopped at The Delhi-Howarah route and relief and rescue operation is on.
