6 engineers suspended for alleged dereliction of duties in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, 6 senior engineers including Engineer in Chief in the irrigation department have been suspended for their alleged dereliction of duties.An official spokes person told AIR correspondent that this action has been taken against senior most engineers of the department after the visit of the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to Lakhimpur Kheri to inspect the Sharda barrage . During his first visit to any of the districts in the state the Chief Minister said that large-scale irregularities have been committed by irrigation department engineers and they have also tried to hide these. He also said this will be probed and stern action will be taken against all those found guilty.Announcing specific flood projects worth 18 crore rupees for the district he also ordered a high-level probe into desiltation of the Sharda river. He also approved fresh purchase of five steamers to rescue flood victims during floods. He instructed the engineers to ensure that all flood control works were completed before the start of monsoon to cause minimum inconvenience to the people.
