In Afghanistan, six American soldiers died in different parts of the country on Saturday. NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement that five U.S. troops were killed in attacks in Afghanistan's volatile east and south. It said one U.S. service member died as a result of small-arms fire, another was killed by a roadside bombing, and a third died during an insurgent attack in separate incidents in eastern Afghanistan. Two other U.S. troops died in separate roadside bombings in southern Afghanistan. Another statement said that one U.S. service member died as a result of non-combat injuries. June was the deadliest month for foreign soldiers with more than 100 deaths. More than two dozen soldiers have died so far this month.
