6.5 km tunnel project in J&K commencing today

In Jammu and Kashmir, an ambitious project of constructing 6.5 kilometre long tunnel across Jojila Pass on Srinagar- Leh highway is commencing today. The project on its completion will make Srinagar – Leh road an all weather road and fulfill long pending demand of the people of Laddakh region. Our Srinagar Correspondent reports that Union Minister for Surface Transport accompanied by Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of 2,700 crore rupees project this afternoon. During his visit to the valley, Congress General Secretary is scheduled to address the Youth Congress rally and meet Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. The meeting is significant in the backdrop of the recent row on security and empowerment of Panchayat members in the state.
