6.0 magnitude quake, with epicentre in Bay of Bengal, shakes several parts of country

A moderate earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale shook several parts of the country including the national capital region. Met Department Director General LS Rathore said, the epicentre of the quake, which struck at 9.52 PM last night, was located in the Bay of Bengal. He said, there are no immediate reports of casualties or major damage to property. .

Residents in some places of Odisha moved out of their houses as soon as the quake struck and a few buildings developed cracks in Bhubaneshwar.

In West Bengal, Kolkata and its adjoining areas also experienced a mild tremor.

In Andhra Pradesh, people came out of their homes in Visakhapatnam city. Tremors were also felt for ten seconds in Kotananduru, Tuni, Pushakhar Ghat and Humupeta areas of East Godavari district.

In Tamil Nadu, tremors were felt in parts of Nungambakkam, Porur and Triplicane where people rushed out of their homes.
