In Nepal, the fifth National day against Human Trafficking was observed on Tuesday with the slogan, ‘our common campaign: full stop to human trafficking’. In Kathmandu, the Ministry of Women, Children and Social welfare and different non government organizations organized a programme to observe the day.Speaking at the programme, Ms. Chari Maya Tamang said that such campaigns help the women who are engaged in trafficking to come out to lead normal lives. However, there is need for the government, human activists and other organizations to work together to stop trafficking.Ms. Tamang had been awarded earlier in June this year by the US government for acting to end modern slavery. Chairperson of an NGO, Maiti Nepal, Ms. Anuradha Koirala and Ms. Chari Maya Tamang were felicitated in recognition of their contribution to fighting human trafficking in Nepal.The Alliance against Trafficking in Women and Children (AATWIN) handed over a collection of over 10,000 signatures from various districts in the country, calling on the government to ratify the U.N Protocol on Prevention, Control and Suppression of Women Trafficking.
