59% voting in J&K, 61 in J'khand in 3rd phase of assembly polls

Polling was held peacefully in the third phase of five phased assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand yesterday. Jammu and Kashmir has registered around 59 per cent polling in this phase. Briefing media in New Delhi yesterday, Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi said, the election was completed peacefully without any untoward incident in 16 assembly constituencies in 3 districts. He said during the last assembly polls in 2008 voting percentage was 52.13 per cent.

Jharkhand has registered nearly 61 percent polling in yesterday's elections. Voting was held peacefully in all the 17 Assembly seats in this phase. Our correspondent reports that barring a minor skirmish with Naxals in Giridih, no untoward incident was reported. Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha said in New Delhi that during last assembly polls in 2009, polling percentage in these districts of the state was 54.85 per cent.
