57% of Water storage capacity available in 91 major water reservoirs

The water storage available in 91 major reservoirs for the week ending on 5th of January was 89(point)348 Billion Cubic Meter, BCM, which is 57 percent of total storage capacity.<br/><br/>The total storage capacity of these reservoirs is 157.79 BCM which is about 62 per cent of the total storage capacity in the country. Out of 91 reservoirs, 37 have hydropower benefit with installed capacity of more than 60 Mega Watt.<br/><br/>An official release said, in the northern region, storage during current year is less than the corresponding period of last year and is also less than the average storage of last ten years during the corresponding period.<br/><br/>In the Eastern region, storage during current year is better than the corresponding period of last year and is also better than the average storage of last ten years.<br/><br/>In the Western region, storage of water during current year is better than the storage of last year and is also better than the average storage of last ten years.<br/><br/>In the central region, storage during current year is better than the storage of last year and is also better than the average storage of last ten years.<br/><br/>In the Southern region, the storage is better than the corresponding period of last year but is less than the average storage of last ten years.<br/><br/>Punjab, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka have better storage than last year. States having lesser storage than last year for corresponding period are Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
