“Algeria will step into the Est?dio Beira-Rio later tonight to avenge their 1982 controversial World Cup exit involving Germany.

Algeria competed in the World Cup for the first time in 1982 in Spain, and had stunned West Germany – then the European champions, 2-1 in their opening game. They had finished with two wins and a defeat, before West Germany and Austria met in the final group game.

A 1-0 win for the Germans would take both sides through at the expense of Algeria, and that was how the match turned out. Algeria protested claiming that the match was fixed, but the allegations were never proved. Halilhodzic's side would like to avenge that tonight, with the quarterfinal berth up for grabs.

They will have unchanged side that drew with Russia in their final group match. For Germany, Lukas Podolski won't be available in this match, as he is out with a thigh injury. Full back J?r?me Boateng is also a doubt with a knee injury. Onus will again be on Lahm, Muller, Kroos, Schweinsteiger and Oezil.

Muller will also eye to leave behind Messi and Neymar and at least join James Rodriguez at the top of the goal scoring charts. Algeria have played Germany twice and beaten them on both occasions, but they very well know that this time, it won't be easy.
