56% voting till 3:30 PM in MP, brisk polling in Mizoram; campaigning on peak in Rajasthan, Delhi

About 56 per cent votes were cast in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections when reports last came in. The highest 64 per cent votes were cast in Susner Assembly segment.

Chief Electoral Officer, Jaideep Govind told media that a case has been registered against the State Women and Child Development Minister for violation of election code in Munnawar.

Nine more FIRs have also been filed. The polling remained by and large peaceful as heavy security arrangements were made for smooth conduct of polls.

He however said that eight firing incidents were reported in Bhind and Morena districts and 132 votes could not be registered in the EVM at Simour Assembly polling booth due to carelessness of polling officer.

AIR Correspondent reports that four crore 64 lakh voters were eligible to decide the political fate of 2,583 candidates. This includes 200 women candidates.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan cast his vote at his native village Jait in Sehore district. Union Minister Kamal Nath exercised his right of franchise at Shikarpur in Chindwara.

Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, former Union Minster Suresh Pachori, Member of Parliament Maya Singh and Yashodhra Raje Scindia were among the prominent persons who exercised their franchise in the early hours.

A polling officer died of heart attack in Badwara segment in Katni district this morning.

In Mizoram, heavy polling has been recorded in the elections. AIR Correspondent quoting election officials adds that the polling can be around 80 per cent. The exercise began at 7 this morning amidst tight security.

Voting gained momentum as the day progressed. The voting came to an end at 4 p.m. Voters decided the electoral fate of 142 candidates.

AIR Correspondent reports that for the first time in the country, Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trails were used on a larger scale in ten Aizawl Assembly segments.

As the last date for polling in Delhi and Rajasthan is approaching, political parties are making all out efforts to woo the voters.

In Rajasthan, top leaders of Congress are campaigning along with BJP and CPIM to seek the support of voters.

AIR Correspondent reports, prominent among those who addressed election rallies include Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi and BJP's Prime Ministerial Candidate, Narendra Modi. More than 50 public meetings were organised in the State.

In the National Capital Delhi, top leaders of political parties have joined the election campaign.

The main contest is between the ruling Congress, BJP and Aam Aadmi Party.

Corruption, price rise, development and a responsive administration are some of the key issues that are being taken up by the leaders in most of the rallies.

Pad Yatras are also being organised to attract the voters.
