56 killed in Myanmar landslide

In Myanmar, a total of 56 people have been killed and four others injured in the landslide triggered by heavy rain in the western Maungtaw and Buthidaung townships over the past few days. The heavy rain and strong wind also swept the state's three other townships of Minbya, Ponnagyun and Kyauktaw. According to reports, over 120 houses and buildings were destroyed in the fury causing damage to bridges and erosion of some sections of roads in the three townships. A total of 2,276 flood victims of 298 households have been evacuated to safer places and rescue and rehabilitation work are underway.
