The third phase of Assembly elections in Bihar saw 54 per cent polling which is higher than the two previous elections held in the state. While the 2005 Assembly elections saw a 47.36 per cent turnout in the same region, the Lok Sabha polls last year saw 43.74 per cent polling.Briefing reporters in New Delhi on Thursday evening, Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi attributed the increase in polling percentage to the voter awareness programmes launched by the poll authority in a big way. Meanwhile, campaigning has intensified for the fourth phase of Assembly elections on Monday.
