54.3% voter turnout recorded in Jammu – Poonch parliamentary constituency till 3 PM

About 54.3 percent voter turnout has been recorded in Jammu – Poonch parliamentary constituency till 3 PM. Official sources said , 53.45 percent polling has been recorded in Jammu district, 49.66 percent in Rajouri, 50 percent in Poonch and 64 .09 percent of voting in Samba district.

AIR Correspondet reports that polling in Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency began this morning under clear hot weather. Voters in good number were seen in long queues for polling at most of the polling booths in Jammu city and different areas in Samba, Poonch and Rajouri districts. Enthusiasm was witnessed among voters about using their right to franchise especially the youth and the first time voters.

Over 2200 polling stations including 80 critical polling booths have been set up in 20 Assembly segments of four districts of Rajouri, Poonch, Samba and Jammu. Divisional administration has already put in place all the logistics besides adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure free, fair and impartial polling in a peaceful atmosphere.

Over 17 lakh 60 thousand registered voters including those from twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch are eleigible to vote.Though there are 19 candidates in the fray, the close contest would be a triangular contest between NC-Congress joint candidate and sitting Congress MP Madan Lal Sharma, BJP's State President and MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma and PDP's Yash Pal Sharma.
