Five young martial arts athletes of Meghalaya will represent India in the WAKO Cadets & Juniors World Kickboxing Championship-2014, organized by the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO), at Rimini in Italy from September 6 to 14, this year.The three cadets and two juniors who will represent the country at the coveted championship under the leadership and guidance of Donny Ranee, founder-president of the Meghalaya Association of Kickboxing Organisations (MAKO).The youngest in the group is an 11-year-old girl Lorenza Songthiang, along with her colleague, Belldona Pakyntein are all prepared to bring laurels for the state and the country in the women category.The three boys, Francis R.R. Songthiang, Edward Mawthoh and Hame Shaniah Suiam are gearing up to live up to the expectation of MAKO.The martial arts athletes have excelled and brought medals for Meghalaya at the state, regional and national championships over the years. MAKO has bagged over 100 medals so far.The WAKO Championship to be held in Italy will provide ample opportunities for the budding martial athletes to prove their metal at the international arena. The total expenditure to be incurred by the team for their participation including flights has been budgeted at Rs.10 lakh, in this connection MAKO has appealed to the general public to soliciting funds, donations and sponsor to enable the martial arts athletes to successfully participate in the international championship and also bring laurels to the state and the country.
