A 10-member Indian table tennis team, comprising five men and an equal number of women, is leaving for Japan today to participate in the World Championships. The 8-day event begins in Tokyo on Monday. The team is being accompanied by foreign coach Peter Engel and national coach Bhawani Mukherjee. The men's team comprises A Sharath Kamal, Anthony Amalraj, Soumyajit Ghosh, Harmeet Desai and national champion Sanil Shetty, while K. Shamini, Madhurika Patkar, Manika Batra, Pooja Sahasrabudhe and national champion Ankita Das form the women's squad. Sharath Kamal will join the squad at Tokyo from Germany. The Indian men and women's teams had finished at the 27th spot in the last world championships held in Germany in the year 2012. The present squad is leaving after an intensive fortnight-long training camp in Patiala.
