Olympic bronze-medallist Vijender Singh will kick off his campaign at the World Boxing Championships at Almaty, Kazakhstan today. Vijender, who opened India's medal account in the mega event with a bronze in 2009, will face Sweden's Hampus Henriksson in his opening bout in the 75kg category. This is Vijender's fourth appearance at the biennial event. In the 69kg section, Asian champion Mandeep Jangra rounded off a second successive winning day for India yesterday, as he eased past Tanzania's Selemani Kidunda, 3-0 to enter the second round. He was the lone Indian boxer to step into the ring yesterday. Mandeep will fight it out against Serdar Hudayberdiyev of Turkmenistan in the next round.Earlier in the Championships, Vikash Malik in the 60kg category had notched up India's first win when he beat Kyrgyzstan's Meder Mamakeev to enter the second round. The reigning national champion will next face Poland's Dawid Michelus.
