Recovering from the day's lows, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange stood 94 points, or 0.5 percent in negative territory, at 17,875 in afternoon trade, a short while ago. Earlier in the morning, the Sensex had opened with a loss of 230 points, or 1.3 per cent, at 17,738, on persistent selling by funds, after the rupee plunged to a new record low against the dollar, and as global markets lost ground.Stock markets in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia and South Korea had declined between 0.1 percent and 2.8 percent, today. The US Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended 1.1 per cent lower in yesterday's trade.
